RALEIGH — The public can now begin registering to speak at the five public hearings that will be held on the 2011-12 Wake County student reassignment plan.
The hearings, which begin next week, will allow the public to comment on the staff's plan to move 3,224 students to different schools in the fall. People can also comment on the hundreds of additional students that the school board has agreed to put on the table for possible reassignment next year.
Hearings will be held next Monday at Cary High, Jan. 11 at Millbrook High in North Raleigh, Jan. 13 at Heritage High in Wake Forest, Jan. 19 at Southeast Raleigh High, and Jan. 20 at Garner High. The hearings are scheduled to run from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
People who wish to speak will be able to register at the door or in advance online at www.wcpss.net/signup/assignment.
The school board will hear comments first from people who registered online in the order in which they registered, and then from those who sign up at the door.
The board could take a final vote Feb. 1.
