Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a conservative Republican, had placed U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on a list of politicians she wanted to remove from office in November's mid-term polls.

Ms. Giffords had pointed to the "crosshairs of a gun sight" that Mrs. Palin had used on her list, adding: "When people do that, they have to realise that there are consequences to that action."

Mrs. Palin has issued a statement offering her condolences to the families of Ms. Giffords and the other victims of the attack.

Isn't it now time for Palin to shut her mouth?

A San Diego judge ruled that a lawsuit filed by PETA seeking to free five SeaWorld orcas could not be brought under the anti-slavery 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution because the amendment pertains to humans, not animals.

Regarding the Feb. 9 article "$26B housing deal backed": Gosh, I was all excited at the free money being handed out! Unfortunately, I realized I had been too responsible in buying a house within my means and keeping my payments current.
Beauty in teachings
In his Point of View "Catholics, conscience and health insurance" Feb. 4, William Powers misrepresented the importance, history and perspective of the church's teaching on human sexuality as it relates to contraception.
Cats at the bottom
Regarding your Feb. 3 article "Feral felines spared; future policy unclear"), it seems that advocates of trap, neuter and release are placing the welfare of feral cats above other animals, particularly wildlife.
