What a tragedy it is that the administration of Peace College unceremoniously eliminated its music department! Creation of a new musical theater major would require the renovation of Kenan Recital Hall, an extremely expensive endeavor that would result in the loss of a wonderful venue for music. How does this save money?

With its clear and projecting acoustics, Kenan Recital Hall is renowned as one of the best halls in the state and can make anything from a violin or piano to a singer's voice sound incredible. Even the slightest change to the hall can drastically affect its acoustics.

It is heartbreaking to think that fine music such as the Manning Chamber Music Series, Peace Chamber Singers and Peace faculty recitals will no longer be heard there. These events have become an integral part of our arts community, and these free public performances will be greatly missed.

The loss of the Peace College music professors would also be a blow to the arts community of Raleigh. Music at Peace College will be greatly missed, not only by the students, but also by the entire community. Is it too late for the administration of Peace College to reconsider this drastic action?
