Mildred Harris Grissom, age 89, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at Duke Medical Center. Her parents, James Parry Harris and Estelle Blackleg Harris, her daughter, Patricia Louise Grissom and her brother, Raymond E. Harris preceded her in death.

Mrs. Grissom graduated from Henderson High School in 1939 with a Perfect Attendance of eleven years. She was an Honor Student and played basketball on a team that was undefeated. Mildred and her husband owned and operated Service Cleaners in Norlina and Fashion Cleaners in Warrenton for 38 years. She was a member of Norlina United Methodist Church, where she held many offices, taught Sunday School as well as organized Youth Sunday School, served as Church Treasurer and was the first woman Chairman of the official Board. Mildred was active in the Women's Society and Norlina Woman's Club until she was no longer physically able to participate. She was a beautiful and gracious lady. even more beautiful on the inside.

Rev. Rod Mullen. Dr. James P. Harris, Jr. and Rev. Patricia Archer will conduct funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 27th at Norlina United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Warren Dale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30—8:30 PM on Wednesday at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Mrs. Grissom is survived by her husband, Graham P. Grissom; one brother, Dr. James P. Harris of Salisbury, NC; four sisters, Inez Wall, Lila Pleasants, Ruby Gall and Maurine Edwards all of Henderson, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Norlina United Methodist Church.
