From Clemson news release

Former Vanderbilt head coach Robbie Caldwell has joined the Clemson football staff as offensive line coach, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney announced on Wednesday.

Caldwell replaces longtime assistant Brad Scott, who has decided to retire from active coaching and move into athletic administration.

Caldwell has 33 years experience in college coaching, including stints at Furman (1978-85), N.C. State (1986-99), North Carolina (2000-01) and Vanderbilt (2002-10). He served as Vanderbilt's head coach this past season after eight years as offensive line coach with the Commodores.

"Robbie Caldwell is a great fit for Clemson, our players and our coaching staff," Swinney said in a release. "He is very similar to coach Brad Scott in a number of ways, and it should be a good transition for our players.

"It is a good time for a change from the standpoint that we have four returning starters in the offensive line.

"Robbie is one of the most respected coaches in the business. ... He has 30 years of coaching experience and has developed some outstanding players over the years."

A native of Pageland, S.C., Caldwell is a 1977 graduate of Furman.

Basketball

A winning pair: Syracuse's Jim Boeheim and Connecticut's Jim Calhoun have set the record for most total wins between coaches.

Boeheim entered Wednesday night's game between the schools with 847 wins, and Calhoun came in with 840.

The 1,687 total bettered the mark of 1,665 set by Texas Tech's Bob Knight and Oklahoma State's Eddie Sutton on Feb. 2, 2006. Sutton was not at the game because of illness, but it still counted on his record.

The mark for two coaches who were both at the game was 1,647 between Duke's Mike Krzyzewski and Calhoun on Nov. 27, 2009.

Baseball

Gamecocks' Belcher out: South Carolina starting pitcher Nolan Belcher will miss the 2011 season because of a torn ligament in his left elbow.

Belcher was 3-1 with a 2.43 earned-run average in 292/3 innings of work in 2010.
