The Duke game was the start of a three-game homestand for Maryland but keep an eye on the Terps when they get back on the road. At 3-1, they entered Wednesday night with the best road record in the ACC, and they've won seven of their last nine conference road games.

It was impossible to miss the Maryland student section in the Comcast Center, perhaps even with your eyes closed. The students, in full throat for the Blue Devils' annual visit, were wearing bright yellow "Garyland" T-shirts making one end zone and the seats surrounding the court look like a wall of yellow. It also highlighted the fact the Maryland students get virtually all the seats closest to the court rather than being tucked into a corner.

Duke freshman Tyler Thornton made his first college start Wednesday night. Since Kyrie Irving was lost to injury, Andre Dawkins and Seth Curry had both been used as backcourt starters alongside Nolan Smith.

About 30 minutes before tipoff, Maryland showed a brief video featuring ESPN's Scott Van Pelt, an alum, asking the fans, to represent the university and the basketball program in a positive manner.

Here's something you never used to see: During a timeout Wednesday night, Maryland ran an ad on its big video board telling fans that tickets to the ACC basketball tournament next month in Greensboro are on sale to the general public. It wasn't that long ago tickets were like gold.
