DURHAM -- At Duke, they shouted at Georgia Tech’s Glen Rice Jr.: “Daddy’s better,” because his father was an incredible shooter who led Michigan to the 1989 NCAA title.

At other arenas, they shout at Duke’s Seth Curry: “Stephen’s better,” in reference to his brother, the former Davidson player and current Golden State Warriors standout.

The various versions of this jeer are among the lamest in sports. So what if somebody has a family member who’s better. Peyton Manning is better than Eli, but Eli still can show you his Super Bowl ring

I’d love to hear how the geniuses who chant this would have jeered one of the NHL’s six Sutter brothers.

“Four of your brothers are better.”

• The referees – who called a technical foul on Duke’s bench in the first half – weren’t the only ones to upset Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski.

After the horn sounded while Duke guard Tyler Thornton was preparing for the second of two free throws, Krzyzewski yelled at the scorer’s table.

“What are you doing,” he said.

The folks at the scorer’s table had a difficult first half, with the poorly timed horn, two clock errors and a possession arrow pointing in the wrong direction.

• Six Duke players scored six points or more in the first half. That’s an egalitarian spread the likes of which the Blue Devils haven’t seen much this season.

Part of it was the result of two early fouls on ACC scoring leader Nolan Smith.
