Borders announced this month that it had filed for bankruptcy and would be closing four of five local stores. Though that news saddened a lot of folks, Raleigh's Quail Ridge Books is trying to win over Borders shoppers.
Bring in your Borders Rewards card and Quail Ridge will give you a membership card for its Reader's Club that's good for one year. Normally that would cost you $15. The Reader's Club offers you a number of perks and discounts, including a big one during the Quail Ridge Spring Reader's Club sale, which is coming up April 29 through May 2.
Coinstar iTunes bonus is back
If you were a fan of the bonus offers from Coinstar around the holidays, you have another chance to cash in.
Here's the deal: Cash in $40 or more at a Coinstar machine. Choose the option to get credit for iTunes, one of the Coinstar partner retailers (which means you aren't charged the regular counting fee). Coinstar gives you a $10 bonus.
You will be able to use your certificate for the amount you cashed in immediately. It will contain a code and information on how to submit for your $10 bonus, which will be mailed to you. The offer is good through March 6.
Annie's wants to 'Root for Kids'
Annie's - the company that makes the organic version of Kraft Mac and Cheese and a number of other organic food products - is trying to encourage kids to "dig real food."
Adults can join Annie's Root for Kids program. You fill in your name, address and the number of children you will commit to helping grow a garden. (This would be awesome for teachers.) Then you pick a vegetable, and Annie's will send you free seeds!
Find the program at root4kids.com/join/.

Good family resource
Here's a good one for all the parents and grandparents (and aunts and uncles and friends). In North Raleigh, there's a new e-newsletter and blog that rounds up all of the kid-friendly activities in the area.
I would note that it's free to join the mailing list and most of the activities are free too. It's called Macaroni Kid, and you can find the blog and the link to sign up for the newsletter at northraleigh.macaronikid.com.
