UNC-CH grad has created a collection of trendy women’s wear that uses materials created by female artisans from around the globe. 
John Carbone, 49, started wearing his uniform – khakis, an oxford shirt and dock shoes – when he was a medical school resident. He’s still wearing it, and adds a navy blazer to “dress it up.” But Carbone’s uniform doesn’t work when he’s at the governor’s office or General Assembly or meeting with senior administrators, all part of being the director of mental health services for the state Division of Prisons. “I need a ‘look’ that speaks of authority and professionalism, and yet doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb,” he wrote. “I can use all the help I can get!” 
Judging from the plethora of eye-catching eyewear that’s been getting face time over the last few years – be it on the European ready-to-wear runways or in the adjoining office cubicle – it’s clear that glasses have gone from nerd necessity to chic accessory. 
Her goal was to create a garment that would look nice draped over a mother’s shoulder, while being sturdy enough to keep said shoulder clean. 
The store made its mark by selling avant-garde designer clothing not found elsewhere in the area.
