"He said a lot of the things I like. One of the things I took in was when he talked about a fast-paced game. A lot of coaches say they're going to play that fast-paced game but don't really play it. I heard what he said, that he doesn't want to play in the 40s and 50s. I love to hear that. That's a plus for me."
C.J. Leslie, N.C. State forward
"I was kind of tired of all the talk. We were all kind of confused, hearing all the names, just a lot of talk.
"I know of him from Alabama and I know he's a good coach and he wants to win, and that's what we all want to do. I know he's a good guy and he wants to win. I like to win myself. I hate losing."
Lorenzo Brown, N.C. State guard
"I was really happy he was hired. As soon as I heard the name I remembered him from Alabama. He recruited me when I was in high school. It's wonderful now that he's here, and hopefully he can help get to where we want to be.
"It's been very difficult. We're happy he's here now and this is over.
Richard Howell, N.C. State forward
"I'm excited. Here's a coach who has experience, who has taken teams to the NCAA (tournament). He built programs. Murray State has some unique challenges, and he got them to the NCAA twice there. If you look at his record, something like 11 of his 14 teams (at Murray State and Alabama) went to the postseason.
"The added bonus is that [athletic] director [Debbie] Yow has known him for a long time. That's a known quantity. So much of this business is relationships, and I think that was a factor that certainly played a role in this process."
Sam Pardue, N.C. State faculty representative for athletics, member of basketball coach search committee
