Mr. Douglas McCree Bowman, 68, of Four Oaks, NC, died on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, after an extended period of declining health.
He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd McCree Bowman and Mary Bradford Bowman.
He is survived by his loving wife Paula Canaday Bowman; daughter Amy Paige Ramsey, of Asheville, NC; sons John Douglas Bowman, of Nashville, TN, and Jeffrey Hunter Bowman, and wife Marijane, of Mooresville, NC. Surviving grandchildren are Hunter Roberts, Andrew Ramsey, Katherine Ramsey, Brandon Bowman, Lillian Bowman, and Grace Bowman.
Mr. Bowman is also survived by a sister Gloria Lick of Clayton, NC; nieces Angela Halverson, Belinda Walter, Caroline Talbot, and nephew Neal Mashburn. Other special family includes mother-in-law, Laura Faye Wood Canaday, of Four Oaks, NC; nephew R.C. Canaday, IV, and wife Lisa, of Benson, NC; and great nephew, Cameron Canaday, of Atlanta, GA.
After attending Bryson City High School he graduated from East Tennessee State University where he began his career in Financial Management. Highlights of his career include many years at Merrill Lynch as a Business Continuation and Estate Planning Specialist. Later he started his own company, Business Financial Services, Inc.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Four Oaks and attended the Genesis Sunday School which was very special to him.
Mr. Bowman enjoyed attending auctions and antiquing. He shared his lifelong love of travel with his wife and dog, Misty. His love of football started when he played in high school and continued throughout life.
He loved his family and friends. His dry wit and sense of humor was always present at family and social gatherings.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church Four Oaks Fellowship Hall on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Four Oaks First Baptist Church, 403 N. Main Street with Rev. John Norman officiating.
