Area teams seek State Cup

Twelve teams from area clubs, including eight from the Capital Area Soccer League, have advanced to the semifinal rounds of the U.S. Youth Soccer State Cup.

From CASL, the '97 (U13) Spartan Elite Black girls, the '97 (U13) Chelsea boys, the '96 (U14), the '96 (U14) Chelsea boys, the '95 (U15) Elite boys, the '94 (U16) Elite boys, the '93 (U17) Elite boys and the '92 (U18) Elite boys have final-four matchups this weekend.

Also advancing were Triangle United Soccer Association's '96 (U14) Gold boys and '95 (U15) Gold boys, the Fuquay-Varina Athletic Association's '93 (U17) Flash Red boys (taking on CASL's '93 Elite) and Triangle Futbol Club's '92 (U18) Navy boys (taking on CASL's '92 Elite).

For TFC's '92 Navy, this marks the sixth straight season the team has advanced to the State Cup semifinals following an undefeated weekend in three matches.

Semifinal games are scheduled for Saturday in Greensboro.

Kepner President's Cup

The '97 (U13) CASL Chelsea Juniors Black team and six other area teams have advanced to this weekend's Kepner Cup's semifinals in Greensboro

Two weekends ago in Statesville, the '97 Chelsea Jrs Black defeated the Twins City Blue 1-0 on an Alex Rose goal. The following day, Lucas Del Rosario scored two goals, and Grant Nelson and Alex Rose also scored in a 4-0 win over the ACS Elite Orange. Goalkeeper Jack Nickens was credited with the shutout in both matches.

The '96 (U14) TUSA Gold girls, the '95 (U15) TUSA Green boys, the '93 (U17) CASL United Black boys and the '92 (U18) TUSA Gold boys also advanced to this weekend's semifinals. The U14 boys division will feature a semifinal match between two area teams: the '96 FVAA Flash Red against the '96 CASL Premier.

AC Sandhills Summer Kickoff Classic

The Capital Area Soccer League's U-14 Hurricanes won their division title in this past weekend's AC Sandhills Summer Kickoff Classic in Southern Pines.

In Sunday's championship match, the Hurricanes defeated LRSA All Americans, for the second time. Blake Clausen (two goals), Matt Prakke and Adithya Iyengar scored in the 4-0 win, and goalkeeper Ben Pierce recorded the shutout.

In the U13 Boys division, the TFC '97 White defeated CRSC 97 Carolina Soccer Select 7-0 in the championship match. Nick Vorobiov (two goals), Kevin Harrington, Colin Iturralde, Richard Lee and Brad Wieland scored for TFC, with an own goal rounding out the final score.

Chatham Soccer League

The '95 CSL Fire ended its first season as a 2nd Division Classic team with a 6-0-2 record, earning them first place.

The Fire will be promoted to 1st Division Classic next year, increasing the level of competition that it will play.

"I am proud of these boys for moving to the next level of play and showing that they can not only compete, they can prevail," coach Jorge Castro said.
