"Dan" went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, May 21, 2011. He was 83 at the time of his death. Dan was born October 9, 1927 just a short distance from where he permanently resided. In November, 1945 Dan enlisted in the USMC where he achieved the ranks of Corporal. Dan’s true passion was farming. He enjoyed watching things grow and sharing farm stories with other farmers in the community. In his senior years he loved Roses and admiring nature including various farm animals that he considered pets. Dan had a sharp mind and wit that brought humor and insight with everyone. His life was lived loving his family, sharing times with his friends and neighbors and dedicating his life to God. He encouraged those around him in life and had a smile that could warm you inside out and a laugh that delighted all around him.

His courage in facing the loss of loved ones and in his final years, the loss of his health was inspiring to those around him. Even in the most difficult situations he had dignity and grace. His family will be forever thankful and appreciative for his example of hard work and his faith and dedication to God. "Every man dies, but not every man really lives” Dan truly lived, and will forever live within our hearts and memories.

Dan is survived by his wife, Carol Smith of 57 years. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Josphine Smith. He is also survived by other family and many close friends.

To celebrate Dan’s life, please join the family for the service Monday May 23, 2011 at 7:00.
