From Staff ReportsMay 27, 2011

A woman walking naked down Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh this morning has been taken into custody by police, given a set of clothes and is being taken to a mental facility, police said.

The woman, wearing nothing but a pair of sandals, was spotted by police about 10 a.m., and quickly removed from the busy downtown thoroughfare, police watch commander Lt. Robert Strickland said.

"Officers were johnny on the spot," Strickland said.

After interviewing the woman, Strickland said, officers decided to begin commitment proceedings.
