RALEIGH -- A special account has been set up at the state employees credit union for donations to pay funeral costs for the 5-year-old-girl struck and killed by a car as she was playing on the steps of a neighbor's home.

Nadia Imania Hines died at the scene after a woman lost control of her car shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday and careened into the town homes on the 4900 block of North New Hope Road where Nadia and several friends were playing.

Another child, Kamiyah Wright, 4, was injured by debris from the accident. She was treated at WakeMed in Raleigh and was back home Monday.

Police charged the driver of the Honda, Sia Elizabeth Byass, of 7009-H Woodbend Drive in Raleigh, with one count each of reckless driving-wanton disregard, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and having unsafe tires. She was released from the Wake County jail after posting a $15,000 bond, according to jail officials.

The pink Disney Princess bike Nadia rode on Sunday was still parked next to the steps of her parents' town home today as they mourned the loss of their little girl.

Funeral services for Nadia are set for Friday at 1 p.m. in Goldsboro at the Bear Creek Association on 1800 S. Slocumb St.

"Her parents did not have insurance," Nadia's aunt, Monica Barrett of Raleigh said this afternoon.

Anyone interested in donating toward Nadia's funeral expenses can make a donation at the N.C. State Employees Credit Union. The account is in Nadia Hines' name. The account number, 60911573.
