J on Dee Graham is from Texas and has a voice that's rather unpretty. That puts him in fine company, a distinguished lineage of Lone Star singer-songwriters who make a little voice and a lot of great wordplay go a long way. Graham also has the added distinction of being a fantastic guitarist, going back to his days in iconic Texas bands the True Believers and Skunks. He'll rage against the dying of the light Thursday at Raleigh's Berkeley Cafe on a raconteur-friendly bill with Sam Baker. Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets are $12 advance, $15 day of show. King, who played the Durham Performing Arts Center's first show back in 2008, makes a return visit; Connells, Love Language, Small Ponds and other notables play Rise Up Raleigh, a free storm-relief benefit show at the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater; Miranda Lambert holds forth at Cary's Booth Amphitheatre; and Nashville Pussy's first Triangle show in a while is at Carrboro's Cat's Cradle.

Museum of Art on Saturday; Loners rock it up at Kings in Raleigh on Saturday; the always-delightful Ian McLagan plays Raleigh's Pour House on Sunday; also Sunday, PKM and friends play another benefit for the ailing Mike Gardner (who is still struggling with Parkinson's); Mumford & Sons play Wednesday at the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater; and Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche plays the Cradle on Thursday.
