Dynamo will host Open Cup game

The Carolina Dynamo is one of four Professional Developmental League teams selected to host a first-round match in this summer's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The U.S. Open Cup is the national championship for United States soccer, a single-elimination tournament open to lower-division and amateur teams that compete to advance to play eight Major League Soccer teams on June 28 in the third round.

Based in Greensboro, the Dynamo will host the Charlotte Eagles at 7 p.m. June 14 at Macpherson Stadium. General admission tickets cost $5 and can be purchased by calling the Dynamo front office at 336-316-1266 or by visiting www.carolina .

RailHawks partnership

Seven area soccer clubs have partnered with the Carolina RailHawks for training sessions involving players and coaches from the Cary professional team.

The Capital Area Soccer League, the Triangle Futbol Club, XL Soccer World, Carolina Soccer Club, Dreamsports Center, Lifetime Fitness and Triangle United Soccer Association have teamed up with the North American Soccer League's RailHawks, who aim to identify some of the area's top youth players in hope of developing them to play professionally and potentially join the RailHawks player pool and organization.

"I'm excited about the prospect of bringing in some local youth players to train and possibly play with the RailHawks this summer," RailHawks coach Martin Rennie said in a recent statement released by the team. "We have tremendous youth soccer talent in the Triangle area, and I look forward to helping to create another opportunity for the best young players in our area to achieve their professional dreams."

President's Cup update

The '93 (U17) CASL United Black will head to Decatur, Ala., next week (June 9-12) to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III President's Cup.

A finalist in the Kepner's President's Cup, the '93 United Black will represent North Carolina in place of the Kep ner Cup champion Piedmont Triad Football Club Black, which is unable to travel for the regional tournament.

Seaside Soccer Classic

The Wake Forest United U11 Red Team won its Challenge Division title in the 18th annual Seaside Soccer Classic Tournament in Wilmington two weekends ago, defeating TFC's Santos team 5-1 in the championship game.

In three group matches, the United Red tied CASL Firefox 2-2, defeated the Twin City Youth Soccer Association Twins Red 8-2 and shut out Guilford United Futbol Club 11-0.

Evan Thomas was the top goal scorer for United Red with six goals for the weekend. Zack Veasey and Justin Dieter each scored four goals, and Jake Strasser and Matty Errington each had three. Treyton Jakat, Nate Planisek and Mitchell Hare each added a goal as well.
