I was tentatively on board with some of the suggested changes the Senate wanted to make in our public schools, and while I applaud senators for deciding to keep teacher assistants, the drain on the budget elsewhere is still of great concern. It really irks me that an answer to the deficit is clear: Keep the 1-cent increase in the sales tax.
At the very least, extend the tax increase temporarily until the House and Senate can figure out how to adequately fund our schools - but instead, they are voting to strip them of services over what? One cent? One lousy penny? This is why our politicians are so out of touch with the public - they are holding our schools hostage for 1 cent.
