Buxton/Hatteras
Offshore, the dolphin bite has been as strong as ever. Inshore, Spanish mackerel have been similarly strong. Flounder have been biting in the sound. Two citation pompano were caught in the past week by anglers fishing in the surf. Ocracoke/Portsmouth
On Ocracoke, pompano, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and short flounder are scattered along the beach. Inshore, Spanish and bluefish continue to bite. Cobia have been reported. Offshore, dolphin bite remains active along, and there are scattered blackfin tuna and a variety of billfish. On Portsmouth Island, surf fishing has been booming with reports of red drum, black drum, sea mullet, pompano and flounder. Bogue Inlet

Topsail Island
Outside the inlet, Spanish mackerel have been active. Inside, large flounder are biting. Sheepshead have been reported from the pier and sound. Cobia and king mackerel have been found at artificial reef AR-355. Mahi-mahi have been reported as close as eight miles offshore. The white marlin bite has been strong near Swansboro Hole. Wrightsville Beach
Bluefish, flounder and drum have been prevalent in the surf. Boats trolling nearshore have found Spanish mackerel, king mackerel and bluefish. Offshore, Mahi-mahi begin biting around 15 miles out. Southport/Sunset Beach
Most successful fishing has been done nearshore and offshore from boats. Nearshore, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and flounder are biting. Offshore, king mackerel and dolphin are the most common catches. Any bites from the beaches and off the piers have been from red drum and bluefish. Cobia have been scattered in all areas. Freshwater
Falls Lake
In the morning, largemouth bass can be found at depths around 8 feet. As the temperature rises, bass move deeper to depths of about 14 to 15 feet near points, ledges and deep brush piles. Shad are spawning at medium depths. White bass, white perch and crappie can be found wherever there are shad. Crappie also can be found in deep waters. At night, catfish are biting liver baits and nightcrawlers. Water level: normal 251.5, Wednesday 251.5, full pool 264.8. Kerr Lake
Striped bass are making their way away from the lake and into the channels. Crappie are transitioning to deep waters. They are biting around docks, bridges and brush. Catfish, including a potential world-record 143-pound blue cat, have been biting at the upper end of the lake. Largemouth bass are mainly midlake at depths of 8 to 12 feet. Anglers also can anticipate largemouths occupying hard bottom areas after the spawn. Water level: normal 300, Wednesday 300.7, full pool 320. Jordan Lake
Crappie are biting like crazy between depths of 16 to 20 feet. Following a period of relative inactivity, striped bass are biting at about 20 feet. Reports of largemouth bass and catfish have slowed. Lake Wheeler
Largemouth bass and catfish have been most prevalent in the morning and early afternoon hours. Notable catches in the past week include an 8-pound, 9-ounce bass caught on a jig bait and a 9-pound-plus catfish. Contact: park 919-662-5704.
Shearon Harris Lake
