Regarding the proposed cutoff of funding for the Governor's School, I have to protest this action by the legislature. Governor's School is one of our best ideas, like the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics and School of the Arts. There are so few programs in our education system that actually encourage and stimulate gifted and talented students. We have so much needed emphasis on remedial programs that our top students often languish. Why would we not want to encourage our best young minds to think new thoughts and explore new ideas?

We cannot send everyone to NCSSM or NCSA, but we can send a lot of young people to a short program in the summer. Please reconsider this cut, and find some other administrative expenditures to combine or delete. North Carolina led the way with this program when it was started. Let's not lead the way with its demise.
