Victims named in Knightdale attempted murder-suicide

— Police have identified the couple involved in an attempted murder-suicide.

Police said Richard Lee Roberts Jr., 41, shot his wife, Chaila Janai Diaz, 37, twice in the torso about 4 p.m. on Saturday in their home at 201 Hope Valley Road.

Roberts then turned the gun on himself.

Diaz was taken to WakeMed hospital in Raleigh with minor injuries, where she remained in stable condition on Monday, Knightdale police chief Shawn Brown said in a press release.

Roberts was found dead from a gunshot wound to his head inside a bedroom when police arrived on the scene shortly after 4:10 p.m.

A 14-year-old girl was also at the couple's home during the incident, police said.
