There is a difference in knowing about a person and knowing a person. I count among my many blessings the fact that I knew Earle Purser [who died July 6]. I knew him as a devoted member of the legal profession, a Mason, a faithful member of his church, an authority on multiple topics, a constant friend and a true Southern gentleman.
Many times he could be seen engaged in conversation on a street corner a block from the courthouse. He always seemed to enjoy the subject of politics and was never reluctant to voice his position.
To this day I am amazed at his knowledge and his ability to recall, especially in his later years. I don't recall seeing a computer in his office, then again, with a mind like his, he didn't need one.
