Fork and Barrel open on Falls of Neuse

FROM STAFF REPORTSJuly 15, 2011

After 7-1/2 years of being a chef at City Beverage in Durham, Chris Harris has become a restaurateur.

Harris and partner Danny Qaddomi have purchased the Tap City saloon at 6675 Falls of Neuse Road in North Raleigh and renamed it Fork and Barrel.

Harris, 42, has overhauled the menu, which now features new American fare that is slightly more upscale than what he served up at City Beverage.

"Anything from tuna tacos to steaks to really nice sandwiches," Harris said.

Meals will range from $8 to $22. The restaurant will have 32 mostly craft beers on tap and offer an additional 30 in bottles. New signage will go up soon.

"It's going to be a neighborhood hangout," he said. "That's all we want this place to be is a place for the neighborhood to come and get a bite to eat and a drink."

Harris and Qaddomi had been contemplating becoming restaurateurs for a couple years. They started looking in earnest a year ago, and jumped on Tap City when it came up for sale.

In addition to the location in the Falls Village shopping center, Harris said he loves the atmosphere.

"Walking in here, the place is absolutely beautiful," he said. "It's all dark hardwoods and leather."
