Frugal shopper, coupon clipper and penny pincher Amy Dunn writes about deals, bargains and more online at her blog, Centsible Saver (blogs.newsobserver.com/saver). Here are a few recent highlights.

More cereal, cheap movies

Next time you're at the grocery story, take a stroll down the cereal aisle.

It could be worth a free movie ticket.

According to the General Mills website, specially marked boxes of its cereals have codes inside good toward free movie tickets. Two codes = one free movie ticket.

Enter the codes online and print out a certificate to take to a participating movie theater. Codes must be entered by Aug. 31.

It looks like most of the movie theater chains in our area are participating. Even the IMAX at Marbles Kids Museum is on the list.

Be sure to buy the cereal on sale with a coupon, and you've got yourself a very good deal.

Don't toss CVS receipts

Next time you go to CVS, check your receipt.

The drugstore has changed the look of its Extra Bucks, the as-good-as-cash rewards that print on the end of your receipt when you purchase qualifying items.

I have to say the old style of Extra Bucks could easily be overlooked and tossed in the trash, but I was shocked to hear that the company estimates that millions of Extra Bucks land in the trash instead of being redeemed.

Think of all those missed opportunities for free toothpaste and deodorant!

The new style of Extra Bucks still prints on the tail end of your receipt but has the amount in LARGE BOLD TYPE with a box around it.

I don't know about you, but I can use all the help I can get to keep my coupons and deals straight. So thanks, CVS.

Like Harris Teeter?

The grocery wars are being waged via social media. Harris Teeter sent out a message via Twitter alerting folks to unadvertised specials it has posted on its Facebook page.

These are in addition to the emailed e-VIC specials the grocery chain sends out Friday mornings to customers.

You must be signed up for the e-VIC program to get these Facebook specials. They will ring up at the sale price when you scan your customer card.
