Wyndham extends tourney sponsorship through '16

GREENSBORO - -- Wyndham Worldwide will remain the title sponsor of central North Carolina's annual PGA Tour event through at least 2016.

Officials said Monday that the hotel and resort chain will extend its sponsorship agreement of the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro for four more years. Financial details were not disclosed.

The original four-year deal began in 2007 when Wyndham took over title sponsorship of the event. Its sponsorship was extended last August for two years through 2012.

The extension was announced roughly two weeks before the start of this year's tournament. It has a purse of $5.2 million, and the winner will receive $936,000.
