Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby hasn't played in a game since Jan. 5.
PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby's summer vacation is almost over. Still, there's no telling when the Pittsburgh Penguins star will return to work.
General manager Ray Shero said Monday the former MVP is still dealing with concussion-like symptoms and it's too soon to know if Crosby will be available when the Penguins open camp next month.
Crosby, 24, hasn't played in a game since Jan. 5, missing the rest of the regular season and Pittsburgh's first-round playoff loss to Tampa Bay as he slowly recovered from a concussion.
Police in Coleman, Alberta, said Winnipeg Jets center Rick Rypien was found dead at his home. He was 27. An official with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Rypien's death wasn't suspicious.
Rypien is the second active NHL player found dead this offseason. Former New York Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard died in May from an accidental mix of alcohol and the painkiller oxycodone.
Rypien, the cousin of former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, was granted an indefinite leave of absence last season to deal with an undisclosed personal matter.
Danny Green headed to Slovenia: San Antonio Spurs forward Danny Green, a former North Carolina player, signed with Slovenian basketball league champion Union Olimpija. Green, 24, will be reunited with former college teammate Deon Thompson. They helped North Carolina win the 2009 NCAA title.
Olimpija did not mention financial terms of the deal or whether Green signed an out clause to return to the NBA after the lockout. Green averaged 5.1 points in eight games last season for the Spurs.
Rodgers tests positive: Former American 100-meter champion Michael Rodgers tested positive for a stimulant found in an energy drink and could be ineligible for the world track championships this month.
USA Track and Field spokeswoman Jill Geer said the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency will decide Rodgers' eligibility for worlds. A hearing could be expedited and held this week. A backup sample for Rodgers will be tested Wednesday.
TV ratings down: Keegan Bradley's three-hole playoff win at the PGA Championship drew a 14 percent lower major-market television rating than the final round a year ago. The season's final major tournament was seen Sunday on CBS in an average of 4.3 percent of U.S. homes in the top 56 markets, Gerard Caraccioli, a spokesman for the CBS Corp. network, said in an email.
That's 14 percent lower than the 5.0 major-market rating the tournament got last year, when Germany's Martin Kaymer won in a playoff against Bubba Watson.
Keane joins Galaxy: Robbie Keane is the latest international star to appear in the Los Angeles Galaxy. The MLS-leading Galaxy agreed to terms with the Irish national team captain, adding another big name alongside David Beckham for the playoff run.
Keane, 31, is moving from Tottenham Hotspur, where he has fallen behind Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe. after scoring one goal in 10 matches last season.
S. Williams moves up: Her game growing stronger as the U.S. Open nears, Serena Williams soared from No. 80 to No. 31 in the WTA rankings after her victory in the Rogers Cup. She has won her past two tournaments, the other title coming at the Stanford Classic two weeks ago. She has played in four tournaments since her return.
Williams beat Samantha Stosur 6-4, 6-2 Sunday in Toronto, the latest step in a comeback from injury and illness that sidelined her 49 weeks. The U.S. Open starts Aug. 29.
Caroline Wozniacki is No. 1 in Monday's rankings, followed by Vera Zvonareva, Kim Clijsters, Victoria Azarenka and Li Na.

Martin's appeal denied: The California State Athletic Commission upheld ring officials' decision to stop Christy Martin's June 4 bout with Dakota Stone after she suffered a broken right hand. The panel voted 5-0 in Los Angeles despite claims by Martin's attorneys that it amounted to sex discrimination because of a misguided notion of a greater need to protect female fighters. Martin, whose next match is in New York at the end of the year, vowed to never box in California again.
