Two die in Franklin County accident

From staff reportsAugust 27, 2011

— Two people were killed this evening when a car ran off the road and struck a tree near Franklinton, authorities said.

It was unclear whether the wreck was related to bad weather from Hurricane Irene, which brought heavy wind and rain to much of the Triangle.

The wreck occurred about 6:30 p.m. on West River Road, just east of U.S. 1, said Mark Nelms, a communications supervisor for the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Names of the victims were not available Saturday night.
