I read Bruce Siceloff's Aug. 30 article discussing the breaches to N.C. 12 on the Outer Banks. Stanley R. Riggs, an ECU geology professor who has studied and written about these barrier islands for many years, is a good adviser to turn to in this matter. I hope that Gov. Bev Perdue and our other elected leaders will consider his proposal to replace the Bonner Bridge with a more flexible fleet of ferries in Pamlico Sound. In addition to being a more sensible way to access these shifting sandy islands, multiple ferry terminals would mean economic development for the mainland areas across Pamlico Sound.
