CARY -- The Carolina RailHawks set a club record for wins in a regular season after topping Tampa Bay 2-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday night.
Pablo Campos supplied the offense for the RailHawks with two goals in the first half.
Campos displayed his aerial prowess in the 19th minute, putting the RailHawks (17-3-4) on top 1-0. Kupono Low swung in a corner kick to the far post, where Campos climbed his defender and converted the header.
After jumping on Tampa Bay (9-8-7) early, the RailHawks' attack began to pick up steam.
In the 38th minute, Matt Watson started the second scoring sequence of the night after springing Brian Farber through midfield. Farber sprinted down field and played across the box to Campos, who easily played it past Tampa Bay goalkeeper Jeff Attinella to put the match away.
Campos had a handful of opportunities to earn a hat trick late, but was unable to break through for the elusive third goal.
The RailHawks embark on a three-game road trip, starting with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. They return home Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. to take on Minnesota in the final home match of the regular season.
