Workers pour concrete in front of the rebuilt carousel building as renovations to Raleigh's Pullen Park progress on Sept. 15, 2011. After being closed for more than a year, it is slated to reopen in November.
After a two-year makeover, Pullen Park is almost ready to reclaim its status as a Raleigh jewel.
Crews are wrapping up renovations in time for a Nov. 19 reopening, the same day as the annual holiday parade. Visitors will find a new welcome center, a new concession building, new restrooms, new playground equipment and a new depot for the train ride.
The carousel will be back as well, inside a new, larger, climate-controlled building big enough that visitors can stand inside while they wait their turns or watch others ride.
There's also a new place to eat. The old concession stand will be replaced by Pullen Place Cafe & Catering. Visitors can walk up to a window to order paninis, salads and other items.
Beginning Nov. 19, Pullen Park will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A grand opening celebration Nov. 19 includes a 2 p.m. dedication and music and entertainment from 3 to 6 p.m.
