P.E.O. Sisterhood names scholarship winners

Three Wake County students recommended this year by local chapters of the P.E.O. Sisterhood have won STAR Scholarships.

Each scholarship is worth $2,500 and is awarded based leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international philanthropic and educational organization that promotes educational opportunities for women.

Raleigh's Chapter Z winner was Meredith-Scott Powell, who graduated this year from Garner High School. Meredith-Scott, the daughter of Donna and Rodney Powell, planned to begin studying nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill this fall.

The winner from Chapter AS of Cary was Virginia Niver, who attended Broughton High School. Virginia, the daughter of James and Lori Niver, planned to attend UNC-Chapel Hill and major in biology.

The winner from Chapter I of Raleigh was Elizabeth P.T. Allen, also a Broughton graduate. Elizabeth, the daughter of Charles Stewart Allen Jr. and Corene Mixon Allen, planned to attend UNC-Chapel Hill as well to study nursing.
