Wayne Logan Houser was born on March 26, 1933 to the late Junius and Opal Houser in Lincoln County, NC and died on September 18, 2011 in Raleigh, NC. Wayne is survived by his children, Trisha of Chapel Hill and Brad of Raleigh, along with his brother Jerry of Lincolnton, sister-in-law Beth and husband Tommy Whitaker of Carthage, Gary and Linda Bennett and family of Greensboro, Chris Cardwell (Trisha’s partner), and loving nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his older brother, Don, in 1995.

After graduating with Honors from Union High School, Wayne served in the Navy and attended UNC-Chapel Hill on the GI Bill, graduating in 1959 with a business degree. Thereafter, Wayne went to work for Jefferson-Pilot Insurance Company in Greensboro, where he met his wife of 39 years, Patricia (Pat) Myrick, who passed away in 1999. Wayne and Pat cherished and sacrificed for their children, and worked to instill in them a sense of common decency and respect for all.

Wayne will be remembered for his sense of humor, ability to talk with anyone, love of music and the beach, pampering his cars, having the greenest yard, and proudly voting for McGovern.

The family would like to express their appreciation for the kindness and care Wayne received over the past few years at Rex Hospital and, more recently, at Tower Nursing and Rehabilitation. They would also like to thank the staff and his friends at The Heritage of Raleigh, and, finally, the staff at Hospice of Wake County. A celebration and remembrance of Wayne’s life will be held on September 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm, at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel, located at 515 N. Elm St in Greensboro. There will be time for sharing stories about Wayne, during the service time. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of Wake County (Hospice of Wake County Foundation), 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
