Chapel Hill
In expectation of large crowds at downtown Chapel Hill's annual Halloween celebration Oct. 31, Franklin Street will close to traffic at 9 p.m. and reopen at 11:30 p.m. Access to downtown will be restricted because of lane and street closures, and parking will be essentially unavailable downtown. Chapel Hill Transit will run its usual bus routes, although some will be rerouted because of the traffic diversion plan.
Durham
Monster Mash, a Halloween-theme belly dance, Bollywood show, costume contest and open floor dance, will be held Oct. 29 at Triangle Dance Studio, 2603 S. Miami Blvd. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show runs from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $12.
Hallow-Eno will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31 at West Point on the Eno Park, 5101 N. Roxboro Road. Admission is free. Activities are geared to children ages 12 and younger, and include Treats at the Mangum House, The Scrap Exchange at the picnic shelter, face painting at the mill, The Young People's Performing Company at the Environmental Education Center, hayrides, and campfire stories and songs. Spooky Species, an event for children ages 2 to 4, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Benson Park. Learn about bats, bugs and other spooky species. Take a hike and make a Halloween craft. Cost is $5 for residents and $7 for nonresidents.
The town will celebrate Halloween with the White Deer Monster Dash and Family Fun Run Oct. 29. The five-kilometer Monster Dash is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Buffaloe Road, ending at Lake Benson Park. Runners can dress in Halloween costumes for the chance to win a prize. The registration fee is $35. Each runner will receive a T-shirt. The Family Fun Run starts at 5 p.m. in Lake Benson Park. Participants will have to trick-or-treat their way through the one-mile course. They can dress in Halloween costumes. The fee is $10, and T-shirts will be available.
