Roger E. Gessner, 88, died at his home October 30, 2011. Roger was born in Dunellen, NJ on March 25, 1923 to the late Egbert Joseph Gessner and Mary G. Ryan Gessner. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The Gessner family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 followed by a prayer service and rosary at 8:00 p.m. at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.

Memorial Mass 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 608 Lions Club Road, Wendell, NC 27591 with Military Honors.

Surviving: wife, Patricia Treacy Gessner; children, Robert “Bob” Gessner and wife, Rebecca of Micro, Joan Beebe and husband, Richard “Rick” of Wichita, KS, Elizabeth Gessner of Durham, Paul Gessner and wife, Michelle of Raleigh, Richard “Rick” Gessner and wife, Sarah of Raleigh, Patricia “Trish” St. Michel and husband, Jay of Mt. Airy, MD; 14 grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his grandson, Brian Beebe, siblings, Gerard, Norbert, Richard, John, James, Joan and Edward Gessner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Eugene Catholic Church Building Fund, 608 Lions Club Road, Wendell, NC 27591 or Community Health Care and Hospice of Johnston County, 723 S. Third Street, Suite C, Smithfield, NC 27577-9300.
