UNC quarterback Bryn Renner (2) fires off a pass to Jheranie Boyd in the third quarter. Renner passed for 338 yards and three touchdown in the Tar Heels' 49-24 victory over Wake Forest.
CHAPEL HILL -- UNC quarterback Bryn Renner said Monday that hes completely recovered from a concussion and will be back in the lineup for Thursdays game at Virginia Tech.
Renner, a sophomore, suffered a concussion during the first half of a 13-0 loss at N.C. State on Nov. 5 and was replaced by junior Brad Hanson.
Tar Heel coach Everett Withers said Renner was held out of practice as a precautionary measure until last Thursday.
Im 100 percent. I feel great, Renner said. The medical staff did all the necessary tests and I came out fine. I think I could have practiced right away, but you want to be safe about these things.
Carolina (6-4, 2-4 ACC) won at Virginia Tech in 2009 but will be a solid underdog against the Hokies (9-1, 5-1) this time.
Virginia Tech can wrap up the ACC Coastal Division title with a win plus a loss by Virginia (7-4, 4-2) at Florida State on Saturday.
Withers said Tuesday that defensive back Todd Harrelson, a junior defensive back, has left the team and will transfer at the end of the semester.
Harrelson was suspended from the team on Sept. 17. No reason was given for the suspension by Withers.
