In response to comments regarding the new Wake County school board, I would like to say that all of us should have seen this coming. The past two years have been abominable. The 2009 newly elected majority met prior to taking office, came up with an agenda and bulldozed their way through, listening to no one with a differing opinion. Items were added to the agenda with no prior notice, and many things were perceived as underhanded. There was a lack of professionalism; disparagement of others; name calling; lack of data to support decisions; accreditation threatened; lawsuits filed and fear was fueled.

The perception of many was that only some children mattered. The arrogance was appalling. There was no consensus building and collaborating for the benefit of all our children.

No one wants to move backward; the newly elected board members have stated that they plan to move forward with deliberation, information and in the interest of providing the best education for all our children. Fear, however is once again being fueled. Let's move forward, people; we are supposed to be examples for our children.
