Duke has had a recent run of good guards, and the Blue Devils look like they have landed another in Matt Jones.
Currently ranked as the No. 21 basketball recruit in the class of 2013, Jones committed to the Blue Devils and coach Mike Krzyzewski on Monday, according to ESPN recruiting analyst Dave Telep.
Jones, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound shooting guard from DeSoto, Texas, chose Duke over Texas, Florida, Kansas and North Carolina, according to Telep.
"He's got a great reputation as a shooter, but he's more than that," Telep said Tuesday. "This summer, he showed he can score off the bounce."
Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith led the Blue Devils to the 2010 national title. Kyrie Irving was the point guard on last year's team, which was ranked No. 1 until a toe injury cost him 26 games. Irving was the top pick in the NBA draft in June.
This year's Duke team is fueled by junior guard Seth Curry, who is averaging 15.1 points per game, and freshman shooting guard Austin Rivers (14.4 ppg).
Jones, a high school junior, is an AAU teammate of forward Julius Randle. Duke is also pursuing Randle, a 6-9 power forward from Dallas, who's ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2013. First-year Duke assistant Jeff Capel recruited Jones, Telep said. Capel, the former head coach at Oklahoma, had originally recruited Jones for the Sooners.
