Washington entered the game sixth in the nation in rebounding with 43.1 a game, but Duke had a 40-35 edge on the boards and more offensive rebounds. Mason Plumlee had nine rebounds, Ryan Kelly eight and Miles Plumlee seven.
In pregame warmups, Mason Plumlee was hitting his free throws. Soft touch, nice ball rotation. Then, once the game started, he appeared to tense up. Plumlee handles the ball too much to be a liability at the line.
College basketball games at the Garden always have a special feel. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski recalled playing in the Garden when he was a guard at West Point, joking, "The old Garden had better buckets to shoot at. It was like garbage cans."
