Police charged a Raleigh woman with driving while impaired after a fatal collision just one day shy of her 21st birthday.
Elizabeth Lorene Stevens, who turns 21 today, of White Chapel Way, is charged with DWI and underage driving while impaired after an early morning wreck Sunday at the intersection of Lead Mine and Lynn roads.
According to police, Stevens drove a 2004 Jeep SUV southbound on Lead Mine just before 1 a.m. Dewahn Ahmad Tyler, 32, address unavailable, was driving a 2008 Hyundai eastbound on Lynn when the vehicles collided.
Tyler was taken toWakeMed where he died from his injuries. Police say Stevens was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries and then taken to the Wake County jail.
According to an arrest report, Stevens said she had one mixed drink before the collision. Records show Stevens has been charged in the past with speeding and failing to appear in court.
Stevens was released on a promise to appear in court. She has a court date scheduled for Feb. 15 in Wake County District Court.
