Pedestrian struck and killed in Raleigh early New Year's Day

— A pedestrian was struck and killed on Western Boulevard early this morning, but police have released few details about the accident, including the person’s name.

Police wanted to notify the person's nearest relatives before releasing the name, said spokeswoman Laura Hourigan.

According to Hourigan, the person was struck while crossing Western Boulevard from the south to the north side near the junction with Hillsborough Street. The collision was reported to police at 2:45 a.m.

Police were continuing to investigate the fatality Sunday, and no charges had been filed.
