Harris
Wanted at Wake: third scorer
The Deacons (9-5) get guard C.J. Harris (groin injury) back today for their ACC opener, potentially a big boost. Harris' absence was noticeable in Wake Forest's four-point loss to Wofford Monday.
The Deacons are still a long way from returning to prominence, but they have one of the league's most formidable scoring duos in Harris (18.7 ppg) and forward Travis McKie (17.8 ppg), who combine to average half of the Deacons' points this season. Harris has returned to the shooting guard spot after spending most of his sophomore season at point guard.
Wake Forest needs to find a consistent third scoring option to ease some of the pressure on Harris and McKie, though. Point guard Tony Chennault may be that player but hasn't shown he can do it consistently.
The Deacons also need to improve on the boards, perhaps their most serious deficiency. The return of 7-foot center Ty Walker (who missed nine games due to a suspension) has eased the rebounding burden on senior Nikita Mescheriakov and sophomore Carson Desrosiers, but it's still a problem area for Wake Forest, which has just nine scholarship players on its roster.
