RALEIGH -- Police arrested two men last month after finding nearly a dozen stolen air conditioners in the rear of their truck. Bobby Evans Jr., 40, of 2816 Barwell Road, and Christopher Brandon Holden, 25, of 1021 Rose Lane, have been charged with 10 counts each of felony larceny, 10 counts of felony possession of stolen property, 11 counts of conspiracy to commit larceny and one count of attempted larceny.
Police were alerted when a 911 caller reported two men were "manipulating the air conditioner units" in the rear of a business at a strip mall near the intersection of Oak Forest Drive and Capital Boulevard, according to a search warrant made public Friday at the Wake County Clerk of Courts Office. Evidence gathered at Evans' home on Dec. 17 indicated the commercial-grade air conditioning units were going to be stripped for scrap metals, "particularly the copper," police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Friday afternoon. The witness told the police that the two men hopped into a U-Haul truck and drove off, heading north on Capital Boulevard, court records show.
Evans and Holden were released from Wake County jail Dec. 21 and Dec. 24, respectively, each after posting a $32,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman reported Friday.
