ST. LOUIS -- Duke junior forward Andrew Wenger was named Friday as the winner of the Hermann Trophy as the top NCAA Division I men's soccer player.
Wenger led the ACC with 17 goals and 42 points and ranked fourth nationally in points and sixth in goals. He's the fourth Blue Devils player to win the crystal soccer ball trophy.
Stanford senior midfielder Teresa Noyola was the women's winner in voting by NCAA Division I soccer coaches whose programs are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
N.C. State gymnastics: A crowd of 2,512 at Reynolds Coliseum watched N.C. State score 194.675 points in its season-opening meet, only to come up short against third-ranked Florida's 196.025. Diahanna Ham gave a career-best performance for the Wolfpack, scoring a career-best 9.875 on vault to finish first and lead N.C. State to a 48.850 total on the opening rotation.
Duke wrestling: Duke opened its dual-match season with a 28-14 loss at The Citadel. Blue Devils winners were freshman Tanner Hough, sophomore Ryan Harding, redshirt senior A.J. Guardado and redshirt junior Diego Bencomo.
Duke women's basketball: Freshman Amber Henson had surgery and will miss the rest of the season. Duke will apply for a medical hardship.
CIAA CLASS Award finalists: The women's finalists for the student-athlete leadership awards include Keyona Bryant (Saint Augustine's) and Allyssa Lane (Shaw).
Darrell Glass (Saint Augustine's) is a men's finalist.
