Duke's Andrew Wenger became the first player in the history of the Blue Devils' men's soccer program to be taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft.
Wenger was taken first overall by first-year MLS franchise Montreal Impact, which is transitioning from the second-division North American Soccer League. Wenger projects to be a center back for the Impact, and he played that position while earning 2009 and 2010 ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
But this year, Wenger showed his versatility by playing forward for the Blue Devils during his junior season and winning 2011 ACC Offensive Player of the Year.
