From wire reports

FAYETTEVILLE -- Two Fayetteville police officers suffered minor injuries during a standoff with a Fort Bragg soldier, who is in critical condition at a hospital, authorities reported Saturday.

The soldier was Staff Sgt. Joshua P. Eisenhauer, who is assigned to Fort Bragg's Warrior Transition Battalion, according to the Fort Bragg Public Affairs Office. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital

A police spokesman says firefighters were called to the apartment complex about 10 p.m. about a fire. The spokesman said police assisted after the firefighters couldn't get into the apartment.

About 30 minutes later, officers reported they had fired at a suspect who was shooting at them. Police said negotiators tried for several hours to talk with the suspect but were unable to do so.

Officers knocked down the door and sent a robot into the apartment. They then found a man on the kitchen floor.

No charges have been filed. He is reportedly in critical but stable condition.
