Second man arrested in home invasion case

RALEIGH -- Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with Sunday's home invasion, robbery and auto theft in North Raleigh, but still haven't charged anyone in the fatal stabbing at the scene where the stolen car was found wrecked.

Wilson police arrested Terrell Gaither Hilliard, 19, and turned him over to Raleigh police today. Hilliard faces the same charges as Ronald Stephen Earl Gaither, 23 -- first-degree burglary, common law robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle. Gaither turned himself in on Monday.

Police released a 911 call recorded at 4:59 a.m. in which a resident alerted by the sound of the crash on the 4900 block on New Hope Road described two men fighting in the street.

"They actually are fighting at the moment. They are hitting each other, running around...in the middle of the road near the crash," the witness said.

Near that site, Elezar Barache Herrera, 20, was stabbed in an altercation. He died at WakeMed's Raleigh campus that day.

The home invasion and robbery, which occurred moments before the crash a quarter-mile away at 4901 Wellingford Drive, involved the theft of an Xbox game console, two laptop computers and assorted video games,according to arrest warrants.

The 2005 GMC Envoy was stolen from another residence in the area and crashed shortly after, police said.
