The Carolina RailHawks will open their regular-season home schedule on April 14 in a matchup against the Atlanta Silverbacks. The RailHawks announced their 28-game NASL schedule Thursday.

The Cary-based soccer club will face each league opponent twice at home and twice on the road.

The upcoming season will include the RailHawks participation in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup where they will enter the tournament in the second round, scheduled to take place on May 22.

"The Vancouver Whitecaps FC match on March 4 kicks off 2012 with a great test for our team and sets a great tone for the remainder of the regular season," RailHawks president Curt Johnson said in a statement released by the team. The RailHawks will kick off the 2012 preseason against Vancouver Whitecaps FC of MLS at 3:00 p.m. on March 4.
