Raleigh man charged with rape, drug possession

From staff reportsJanuary 26, 2012

— A man was arrested Thursday and charged with rape and drug possession, accused of strangling a woman while he sexually assaulted her Wednesday.

Mitchell Daniel Pastore, 40, of 2200 Fieldmont Court, is accused of striking the victim, a 47-year-old female, in the face repeatedly. He pulled her hair and threw her to the ground, leaving bruising on her neck as he strangled and raped her, his arrest warrant alleges.

Pastore and the woman knew each other, according to Jim Sughrue, Raleigh police spokesman. The woman had gone to Pastore's residence and a dispute ensued, followed by the violent sequence of events.

Drug charges against Pastore came after the rape was reported and police began an investigation, Sughrue said.

Police found 1.9 grams of heroin, 144.5 grams of marijuana and an unspecified amount of cocaine in Pastore's possession, the report states.

He is charged with assault on a female, assault by strangulation and first degree rape. He's also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and heroin as well as felony cocaine possession.

His bond is set at $600,000.
