RALEIGH -- Continuing a long tradition that has produced multiple track and field All-Americans and All-ACC performers, the N.C. State men's indoor track and field team is getting an injection of speed from the Wolfpack football program.
Senior defensive back C.J. Wilson, junior wide receiver Tobias Palmer and redshirt freshman Bryan Underwood will join coach Rollie Geiger's team this weekend when the men's and women's teams participate in the UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill.
Duke comes up short: The Duke University wrestling team mounted a valiant comeback, but came up just short in a 19-17 setback to host Campbell University.
The Blue Devils won four of the final five bouts of the match.
Campbell (3-2) jumped out to a 16-3 lead after the first five matches before Duke (0-5) stormed back with wins in the next four bouts to pull within two points.
The Camels picked up a decision at 157 pounds to ice their third victory of the season.
Redshirt freshman Brandon Gambucci started Duke's comeback with a major decision victory at 133 pounds, winning an 8-0 major decision over Joey Rizzolino.
N.C. State travels to Kentucky: The N.C. State men's team is one of 60 squads around the country selected to participate in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend. The fourth-seeded Wolfpack, led by senior lefthander Jaime Pulgar, travels to Lexington, Ky., to face No. 7 and top-seeded Kentucky today at noon.
The four-team event is one of 15 similar tournaments around the country for the top 61 teams in the ITA national team rankings from the fall. The winners at each site will advance to the ITA National Men's Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., in February. The second-ranked Cavaliers, as host team, will be the 16th team at the national indoor championships.
The winner of the Wolfpack-Wildcats match will face the winner of today's second-seeded and No. 22 Tulsa vs. third-seeded and No. 58 East Tennessee State matchup in Saturday's 1 p.m. championship match. Today's losers will meet on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the consolation match.
Blue Devils close out season: The Duke men's and women's swimming teams will wrap up the 2011-12 regular season with a pair of home meets today and Saturday in Taishoff Aquatic Pavilion.
The Blue Devils are set to host ACC rival North Carolina on today at 5 p.m. and will return to the pool Saturday morning at 10 a.m. against conference opponent Clemson and the Richmond women's swimming and diving team. Saturday's events will also feature the honoring of Duke's 10 seniors prior to the beginning of the meet.
