N.C.-based Marine dies in Afghanistan

JACKSON, Miss. -- The Defense Department says a North Carolina-based Marine from Mississippi has died in Afghanistan.

In a news release Thursday, the Defense Department says Lance Cpl. Edward J. Dycus of Greenville, Miss., died Wednesday while conducting combat operations in the Helmand province in Afghanistan. He was 22.

The Defense Department says the incident is under investigation and has released no other details.

Dycus was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
